Our Brief;
Insutech Scotland were commissioned to provide design assistance for the replacement of the entire Roof Glazing on the arcade, which would allowed the whole building to benefit from natural daylight but also allowed the architects to incorporate the level of natural smoke ventilation that current building regulations required.
The overall cost of the Villa Marina Arcade refurbishment was estimated at around £4.5m.and the requirement by The Manx Government was to maintain the historic and architectural features of the original building but utilising high performance materials.
Technical Considerations;
The major requirement and consideration was to maintain the historic and architectural features of the original building but utilising modern high performance materials.
The Villa Marina Project utilised approximately 500 Panels in VRS Stainless Steel System glazed with 6mm toughened outer pane and 6.4mm laminated Low / E inner pane giving a mid pane U value of 1.1.
Solution;
Insutech Scotland considered very carefully the clients requirements and budget and agreed to replace the old corrugated plastic sheeting with Vitral VRS Stainless Steel System which allowed the whole building to benefit from natural daylight but also allowed the architects to incorporate the level of natural smoke ventilation that current building regulations required. Apart from consultation Insutech Scotland were involved in the design using the Vitral product, we then, as approved Vitral installers carried out the barrel vault roof light installation.
With the fully integrated smoke ventilation the architects were able to ensure that the relevant standards were met without any visual impact on the overall design.
